Product engineering studio
Junior Software Engineer
Join a product engineering squad building customer-facing web platforms. You will pair with senior engineers, ship real features in your first month and grow through structured mentoring.
£30,000 – £38,000
About the role
This is a genuine junior role, not a junior title with senior expectations. You will join a squad of six engineers working on customer-facing web platforms used by hundreds of thousands of people. From week one you get a dedicated mentor, a 90-day onboarding plan and clear expectations for your first six months. The team works in two-week cycles with daily stand-ups, regular pairing sessions and protected learning time every Friday afternoon. Your code goes to production in your first month — reviewed, supported and celebrated. The role is based on site in Nottingham, and the employer recruits actively from across the wider region.
About the employer
The employer is a mid-sized product engineering studio building web platforms for retail, media and public-sector clients. They run a published engineering career ladder, give every engineer an annual conference budget, and have a strong track record of promoting juniors to mid-level within 18–24 months. Around 40% of the engineering team came through non-traditional routes — bootcamps, apprenticeships and self-taught — and the hiring process is built to assess potential rather than pedigree.

Where this leads
Clear ladder: Junior → Engineer (typically 18–24 months) → Senior. Progression reviews every six months against published criteria, not manager discretion.
